Pioneer Night

Last night we celebrated our ancestor pioneers for FHE.
The evening started with a bean and scone dinner followed with an outline about the pioneers and what they went through traveling thousands of miles on foot.
Shawn pretended that "the prophet called" and asked us to leave everything behind except for what could be carried in a grocery sack. The kids had 5 minutes to go decide what they really needed on their trek. Then we were off to our destination....the park at the top of the hill.
There we took a break for games like potato sack (or pillow case) races and a snack of raw potatoes....
didn't go over too well.
We finished the night off with a treasure hunt for dried fruit and stories at dusk about our heritage. Daddy told about his great x 4 (we think) grandpa, David W. Patten who was the first martyr for the church. I told about Isaac Morley on my side who was the secretary to Joseph Smith and how Emma had her twins (who died 3 hours later) in his home while her and the prophet lived there for a few weeks. His name is mentioned a few times in the Doctorine Covenants as well...which makes me think I'm famous. :)
Lexi told me her heart was warm...which made my night,
and Roscoe told me he was Nephi...awesome.
Here's my little Latter Day Pioneers.

So just what was in these precious bags??
Lexi's :: Dora slippers, pink bunny, her orange teddy bear, a skirt, a long sleeve shirt, a blanket, and her tinker bell doll's blankie (no tinker bell)
Roscoe's :: Good Night Elmo book, a baseball hat (size 0-3 months), a blankie, shorts, tank top, shoes, 3 balls, 3 choo choo trains, and his church tie (haha! gets me everytime).

Sure glad we know what's important.
Hope your 24th's a good one!
